Personal statement

I have always been a creative person; telling stories, writing plays, and drawing.
At University, I became more and more fascinated by advertising: every time I see a television commercial or an advert on a billboard, on the page of a newspaper or magazine, I assess and admire the level of creativity and ingenuity used to get across the required messages. I think advertising is the most influential and creative area in the media industry. And coming from an animation background, I see television commercial as one of the most effective pieces of filmmaking.

My passion for advertising has grown and a Masters Degree in Design and Art Direction is, for me, a natural progression towards the best career in the world and to grow as an artist. My extra-curriculum activities have centred on acquiring these skills. As a student of Multimedia studies at the University College for the Arts in Maidstone, I worked part-time at Odeon Cinema. In August/ September 2008, I gained a placement with Warner Bros in Spain as a junior graphic designer helping, among other things, in the production of advertising materials.
The illustrations and design materials represented here are just a sample of my best work over a course of projects I have undertaken. They show my drawing ability, my imagination and process of how I come up with ideas. It also shows my design sense and my digital paintings done by me in my spare time, demonstrate my knowledge in photoshop.

I am currently in a gap year and I have seized the opportunity to study French and Spanish languages, aware that we are living in an increasingly globalised and competitive world. These languages will enable us to expand my horizons.

Outside my studies, I am a keen sportsman, an athlete mostly, specialising in 200 meters and 400 meters sprints. As a child in a preparatory school in Shepton Mallet, I won the Somerset and Avon county championships in both disciplines at various times and, at the age of 17; I won Kent county championship in 400 meters. I have been competing ever since at regional and national levels recording good times and improving all the time. This year I came second in the Belgian championships at 400m. Sports continues to be a part of my l life.

I am a highly motivated person. I hope to eventually excel in advertising and become an animation director in this field.
